Hey! It is not rocket science, it is a model well known by many but grossly overlooked. The 5W2H model simply entails asking the questions:
- WHY?
- WHAT?
- WHERE?
- WHEN?
- WHO?
- HOW?
- HOW MANY/MUCH?
These questions are asked to acquire clarity in order to eliminate assumptions and prevent misunderstanding due to lack of clarity. When answers are provided to the questions asked by the model 5W2H (Why, What, How, Who, Where, When, How Many) then conflict resolution is made possible and easier.
Conflicts at the lower levels of how much/how many is a question of degree, when, and where are simpler to settle than those at the higher level of what and why. If there is a dispute at the greatest level of purpose, the spouses involved must part ways unless a higher level of purpose can be reached.
So, here is a list of questions to help you obtain insight and overcome conflict:
- The Purpose for the Marriage: Why did you marry your spouse?
- The Elements: What kind of issue are you attempting to resolve?
- Methods and Procedures: How will you approach conflict resolution?
- The Assignment: Who would be in charge of carrying out the duties stated in your process? When and where will the duties be completed? What tools and resources are required, and who is responsible for providing them?
- The Metrics and Goals: How many and how much? What criteria would you use to assess your progress? How would you know if you were successful? (The Objects)?
